Interview, 2000 May 25.

In this typewritten memoir, Manfred Deus shares the details of his life during World War II. He was assigned to the German Army when he was fourteen years old. He shares of the atrocities that he witnesses as a young man during the last years of the German resistence. He was part of a youth support battalion, digging foxholes and trenches for German front line troops until he and several others were able to desert during a bomb raid. He tells of his father who also served in the war and died just days before V-E Day. He also shares some of his personal life before and after the war. After immigrating to the United States, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, but was never deployed during that time. He was very influential in establishing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an organization in Germany.
